Big Brother has kicked off this evening with another bunch of fame hungry housemates. As always, there is value to be had in the betting so I will do my best to give a rundown of this year’s contestants. Rodrigo a 23 year old student from Brazil is currently the early favourite trading at 9/2, a very short price considering the series only started on Thursday.

With the series running well into August there is bound to be plenty of bitching and backstabbing to come not to mention the arrival of 1 or 2 new housemates. With that in mind, the price of 9/2 seems unfathomable.

Freddie a 23 year old entrepreneur from Shropshire is an oxford graduate; he describes himself as “A free spirit for whom 2009 is about blossoming”. Although I don’t think Freddie will go on to win the show, I do think he will qualify as a housemate by Sunday as there are far more annoying non-housemates whom the public will want to get rid. With this in mind the current price of 18/1 seems like a golden trading opportunity come Monday.

Charlie a 22 year old customer services advisor was Newcastle’s Mr Gay UK in 2007. He has a phobia of amphibians after leaving his pet frogs outside to freeze to death before attempting to thaw them out with a hairdryer. Charlie seems like a genuine person and will most likely get on with everyone in the house. Charlie is currently 15/2 on the exchanges.

Angel is a 35 year old ex-rock star from Moscow, whose music was once famous “all over Russia”. Usually eccentric characters like Angel are alienated from the group and find it hard to find anything in common with the other housemates. You only have to look back at Big Brother 6 to see how Mary fared being voted off in week 1. Angel is currently trading at 34/1.

Kris a 24 year old part time model is the pretty boy of this year’s show. Kris dropped out of University and has “no job ambitions”. If he doesn’t offend anyone Kris will more than likely make it all the way to the end but will struggle to win if he doesn’t find a personality. If you fancy a flutter on Kris you can get 14/1.

Siavash a 22 year old event’s organiser from Iran moved to the UK with his family and says he has never paid a rent bill in his life. Appeared to be quite an extroverted character in his audition video but from what I’ve seen of him so far is actually quite dull and boring. If you think Siavash will win he’s available at 23/1.

Sree a 25 year old student from India came to England to study for a master’s degree in business. Sree says his main ambition is to become an actor, prime minister or celebrity. He could well be the dark horse in this year’s contest and at 23/1 is worth a nibble.

Cairon an 18 year old student from Florida is studying performing arts and says he would like to become a hip-hop artist. Being the baby of the house will probably gain him some sort of sympathy from the other housemates and I imagine a growing female fan base can’t be too far away. Well worth a punt at 13/1.

Marcus a 35 year old window fitter from London says his ideal job would be a porn star. What I like about Marcus is he doesn’t take himself too seriously. He has a big enough personality not to get lost amongst all the other personalities. Marcus is a very generous 22/1.

Noirin a 25 year old retail manager from Dublin is a former all-ireland athletics champion who describes herself as a “girly girl”. She will be popular with the male viewers but unfortunately it’s usually females who vote, cue the green eyed monster. Out of the last 9 shows only 2 females have gone on to win over the affections of the British public. Noirin is available at 19/1.

Beinazir a 28 year old support assistant from London fled her native Pakistan aged one with her father. She has become lost under all the other big characters in the house, will find it hard to compete for the affections of the male housemates and will probably find it hard to form relationships with the other girls. I can’t see Beinazir staying in the house for very long. Odds suggest an early exit at 36/1.

Sophie a 20 year old glamour model from Cheshire once posed naked for Playboy. Sophie will be popular with the males in the house and this should see her stay for the duration. History shows that glamour models don’t fare well in winning over the public vote. Sophie can be backed at 15/1.

Lisa a 41 year old lesbian is currently unemployed. Lisa reminds me a lot of big brother 8 housemate Tracey who met her fate in week 12. No lesbian has ever won Big Brother before and her odds of 25/1 suggest she won’t either.

Sophia a 26 year old banking assistant from London is probably the smallest housemate in big brother history at just 4ft 11in. She describes herself as “fun, fierce and feisty”. She has one of the most annoying laughs I’ve ever heard and this will surely grate on the housemates sooner rather than later. She can be backed at 33/1.

Karly is a 21 year old glamour model and one of FHM’s high street honeys. She loves to show off and says she is a “massive flirt”. I can see Karly being quite bitchy within the house. A possible rivalry between her and Sophie is surely on the cards and could create the first split in the house. Karly is 37/1 on the exchanges.

Saffia a 27 year old beauty consultant from Nottingham is a single mother of two. Her audition tape made her instantly disliked by the public and was received by boos upon entering the house. Will probably end up being the first to walk out of the show stating she misses her children too much. Currently the rank outsider at 60/1, avoid like the plague.

Tonight sees short priced favourite Susan Boyle in the final of Britain’s Got Talent 2009. There have been all sorts of media speculation as to whether the final would even go ahead with Susan Boyle due to the apparent pressure on the 48 year old church goer.

Boyle has been the star of the series so far with huge appearances on ‘Oprah’ over in America. However, there has been a lot of negative press towards Boyle recently after reports of her walking out after Piers Morgan claimed Shaheen Jafargholi was the best singer in the competition. Boyle is currently 10/11 to win tonight but has stiff competition in dance act Diversity.

Diversity were available at generous odds of 20/1 earlier this week and are now 10/1 along with Flawless. Diversity are my personal favourites, they are full of energy, incredibly creative with their chorography and have children in their group which always works well with the voting public.

Aidan Davis, currently trading at 9/2 on the exchanges is a young dancer and has a fair chance of winning but with his routine being similar to that of last year’s winner George Sampson I feel the British public may want a change.

Stavros Flatley the 8/1 Greek father and son duo are a fun act to watch but their routine can become repetitive and unless they add something new I think their journey will come to an end.

Saxophonist Julian Smith was the last act to make it through to the final. Julian seems like a lovely guy and has a nice way about him; he’s currently available at 12/1.

25/1 shot Hollie Steel had a disastrous performance in the semi-final and had to beg the judges for another opportunity to perform after being overcome with nerves mid-performance. She probably wouldn’t have made it into the final if it wasn’t for the sympathy vote.

Outsiders at 33/1 are 2 Grand, a grandfather/daughter act with a heart-warming story behind them. While they’re not the best singers in the world they captured the love of the British public and deserve their place in the final.
